Chem-Check Review

This service involves a safety and health consultant performing an analysis of all products that are on the chemical inventory. The analysis would identify chemicals that may pose an undue risk to building occupants. This assessment is intended to identify the following categories of hazards:

1) Known Human Carcinogens (A1 as listed by American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists)

2) OSHA-Regulated Chemicals

3) Reactive/Explosive Chemicals

4) Chemicals with low permissible exposure limits (< 1 ppm; < 1 mg/m3) Threshold Limit Values (TLV) or Permissible Exposure Limits (PELs)

These hazards typically are focused on long-term chemical hazards that could cause disease (i.e.; cancer, lung disease, liver toxicity, mutagenic, reproductive system damage).

A comprehensive report provides recommendations on which products should be eliminated by substitution with less hazardous materials and/or products that must be handled with specific controls to minimize the risk to the exposed population.

Once all recommendations are implemented, a letter of clearance will be issued. This clearance letter will state that the facility is free from the above listed chemicals and/or that where such chemicals are in use, procedures and controls are in place. The letter will state that there is not an undue level of risk to the building occupants based on the chemical review performed.

This letter will be stamped by either a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) and demonstrates the organization has taken due diligence efforts to assure the occupants of the facilities are not knowingly exposed to significant chemical risks.
