Mold has become one of the leading causes of indoor air quality (IAQ) complaints, and professional remediation can be very expensive. For those wishing to remediate and clean mold-contaminated contents and structural building components, a fungicidal additive such as Foster or Sporicidin products is warranted. These products can penetrate porous materials, as well as the cell walls of fungal spores to kill them. Bleach (sodium hypochlorite) can kill fungal spores but does not penetrate porous materials such as wood or cellulose-containing materials. Bleach is best used on non-porous surfaces like kitchen and bathroom tile.
